What’s The Difference Between Studio and Apartments?

When hunting for a place to live or as an investment for your property portfolio. Knowing the key differences between a studio apartment and apartments can save you time and give your ideas for furniture arrangements.

What Is an Apartment?

Apartments come in multiple styles and sizes. Most common apartments come with either one or two bedrooms. Another benefit of an apartment is the clear definition between rooms. Apartments have far more walls when compared to a studio as it’s common for studio flats to only have walls separating the bathroom from the main living area

Another boost over studios is that apartments have far larger square footage on average. This means that you have more space to entertain or to display items.  Also, you will find that apartments have a far larger kitchen area so if you like to cook this might be a deal maker for you.

The drawbacks of an apartment are entirely situational. If you are looking for an apartment in metropolitan areas, you will be expected to pay over £1000 pounds minimum. Another is that while you may have a larger space to live in, you may have to combine rooms into one to really make the most of it.

Pros:

  • Larger Living Space
  • More walls to separate rooms
  • Room to entertain
  • Lots of space to make your mark

Cons:

  • Expensive in comparison to a studio
  • Rooms may have to be merged to maximise space
  • Lots of space to maintain and clean (If you don’t like cleaning!)

What Is a Studio Apartment?

Studio apartments are becoming more and more popular with people living close to or in the city. A studio is an ideal choice of living space if you work in the city and like to go out often. Not only that but, it can be also a cost-saving measure as travelling to and from work/entertainment can become expensive quickly. Another positive to a studio is the cost of living (utility bills for one) are dramatically less costly than an apartment.

If you are not used to living in a small space a studio apartment may seem a bit of a culture shock to you. As the space you will live in is small in comparison. Studio apartments also don’t really have the space to entertain to the same level as an apartment. So, if you like to have guests over regularly you may find it difficult.

Pros:

  • Cheaper than a full-size apartment (especially in cities)
  • Less to clean
  • Closer or in cities
  • You will get out more

Cons:

  • Small living space
  • Everything is practically in one place
  • Less privacy if you live with someone

Things to Consider

When deciding on which living arrangement would be best for you here are some key questions that you should ask yourself.

Will it Suit my Lifestyle?

First things first, you need to make sure that where you are going to live matches up with your current or soon to be lifestyle. If you like to spend your evenings in your home spending some much-earned relaxation time.

But if you want to experience city life to its fullest then your apartment is just a place where you go to sleep and relax. Before heading out for another day or night of city living.

Does the location meet my requirements?

A big factor not only to your lifestyle but also your budget. Choosing the right location can really make or break your choice.

Do you want to live in a location that has a bustling nightlife and has entertainment on every corner? Or perhaps you want the quiet life with transport links to take you to and from work. These types of questions will help inform your decision as you want a place to live that meets your needs.

Access to Amenities

Now you might be fortunate enough to have a washing machine and refrigeration unit in your apartment. But in smaller living arrangements you may find that you need to seek out laundrettes and other similar amenities.

How Much Privacy Will I Have?

We all like to have our own personal space. This is not only important but essential to maintain positive mental health. If surrounded by noise and other people 24/7 you would be exhausted and mentally drained constantly.  If you are living alone and don’t plan on having guests round frequently then a studio apartment may be perfect for you!

But if you have guests over on a regular basis or you are living with your partner then opting for an apartment is the better option.

What Is Better a Studio or an Apartment?

It its totally dependent on what you require from it.  Everyone when looking for a place to live wants something different. Hopefully, the information we have provided can help inform your decision so you can make the right choice.

Conclusion

The major difference between studio and apartments is floor space. The rest are purely personal choices. Just remember to make the choices that suit your needs, not others. This decision is a big one and it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

With the advice previously stated and the pros and cons of both taken into account. Hopefully, you can make the choice that little bit easier.
